Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has shared an encouraging update amid her on-going breast cancer battle.

Taking to Instagram, the dancer revealed she had been told there was "no evidence of disease" in her body after undergoing chemotherapy in the past few months.

"NO EVIDENCE OF DISEASE!" she wrote underneath a photo of herself smiling to the camera, adding: "Words I dreamed of! My biggest accomplishment yet!"

Dowden went on to write that she hadn't been given the all-clear but would now receive regular check-ups over the next five years to make sure the cancer hadn't returned as well as monthly injections.

She continued: "I won't be getting the all clear for 5 years especially with a hormone fed cancer. But it was all worth it. Words I never thought I'd hear at one point.

"So grateful for all the care I received and continue to have. To my husband, family and friends who supported me unconditionally and to you guys! Thank you!"

Dowden went on to write that she will now be "taking the next few months to heal and recover" after gruelling chemotherapy treatment which had taken its toll on her both "physically and mentally".

"I have so much to strive and live for, and so grateful for another chance at life," she added. "Something I know not all get. I certainly see life differently and my life has changed forever!"
