Suranne Jones has revealed a little of what to expect from series two of smash-hit drama Doctor Foster - it'll be "the same… but different".

Jones dropped a few hints backstage at the National Television Awards 2016, where the show picked up two awards - best New Drama and best Drama Performance for its lead actress.

"I didn't think we'd win," she revealed. "I share [the best Drama Performance award] with Mike Bartlett, because he wrote the character and without him, I wouldn't be here.

"You just never knew where she was going, but that's testament to Mike - and we're doing a series two. I can't wait for you to see what he's got in store, because it's going to be the same journey - but really different."

Series two of the infidelity thriller will again be five episodes, with filming beginning in September - though with Jones now an associate producer on the show, she'll be in on the show's secrets from the start.

"No lock and keys this time!" she joked. "Usually as an actor, it's like... 'Just tell me the story!' - but I'm part of that collaborative team this year, so it's going to be fun.

"Mike's working on it - he's been in America - but it'll be similar in set-up [to series one]. It'll follow Gemma and it's a continuation of Simon and Gemma's relationship."

Here's hoping we get a few more hints in the months to come, as we embark on the loooong wait for series two...
