If you stayed up to the early hours of the morning (we did!), then you likely saw England's dramatic 3-2 win over Mexico at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which ensured their progress to the quarter-finals at the co-hosts' expense.

While Thomas Tuchel's men now prepare to face Norway on Saturday (11 July), everybody (we certainly do) needs a bit of a cooldown following the action at Mexico City's Estadio Azteca.

The highly-anticipated match may have been delayed by an hour due to adverse weather conditions, but it certainly lived up to the hype as we got five goals, two penalties, a red card and a full-on Mexican siege in the final stages.

If you want to relive the drama and some of the surrounding moments, then here are some of the best viral moments from a game which is already being considered one of England's greatest ever victories.

After a relatively sedate start, the game exploded into life after the first hydration break, with star midfielder Jude Bellingham putting England 2-0 ahead after scoring two goals within the space of 98 seconds.

Of course, England wouldn't do it the easy way and get to half-time without conceding, but the quickfire brace sent fans into delirium as thoughts of "It's Coming Home" were no doubt pondered.

If the first half took a while to take off, the second half was a riot from the get-go, as England had to survive over 40 minutes with 10 men after Jarell Quansah was sent off following a VAR review.

Luckily, Anthony Gordon won a penalty just a few minutes after this, which captain Harry Kane coolly dispatched to restore England's two-goal lead by making the score 3-1. Again, drama followed.

Like the first half, England's two-goal lead didn't last very long, as Kane went from hero to villain by conceding a penalty of his own. Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford couldn't save it, and so began the Mexican onslaught.

For the next 20 minutes (plus a further 11 in added time), England survived waves of Mexican pressure as viewers across the nation were likely watching the action from behind the sofa.

After what felt like an eternity, the referee finally blew his whistle and England could celebrate a famous victory. To put the achievement into perspective, it's only the third competitive fixture that Mexico have lost at their national stadium since 1966!

It was all too much for Kane, who amusingly lost his voice during a post-match interview with BBC Sport. He apologised for the hoarseness of his tone, and quipped that he was "speechless" in both senses of the word.

Liam Gallagher loves the team's rendition of Oasis song

Part of the reason why the captain had lost his voice was due to the squad singing Oasis' 'Wonderwall' following the victory, and iconic frontman Liam Gallagher relayed that it was thirsty work to sing the classic tune.

"It's hard work that singing Harry Kane cmon ENGLAND cmon WONDERWALL," he wrote on X, and he even went one further by telling a hurting Mexico fan to "stop crying your heart out".

        Ross Kemp shows his passion

Another celebrity who has been enjoying the tournament is Ross Kemp, with the EastEnders star often posting passionate videos on his social media channels following England games.

It was no different for the round-of-16 match, with the Grant Mitchell actor sharing a couple of videos on Instagram. After the game, he said he was "so proud" of the team, and added that it was the "best" England performance he had ever seen.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup airs on BBC One and ITV1 in the UK.
