For two decades, The One Show has been a fixture of the BBC One schedule. Since launching in 2006, the weekday magazine programme has entertained viewers every evening evening from 7pm, blending celebrity interviews, topical stories and consumer features into one of the broadcaster's most reliable hits.
However, regular viewers tuning in this evening (Monday 29 June) won't find Alex Jones or Roman Kemp anywhere on screen. Instead, The One Show has disappeared from the schedules entirely for its annual summer break - and it won't be back for several weeks.
Football isn't the reason behind the shake-up, this time. Instead, BBC One's 7pm slot is being taken over by coverage of the Wimbledon Championships, which began this Monday and will continue until 12 July.

The famous tennis tournament brings significant changes to the BBC's daytime and evening schedules every year, with Wimbledon coverage taking priority across BBC One and BBC Two each summer. But while Wimbledon explains the programme's initial disappearance, it's not the only reason for the extended break.
Alex Jones and JB Gill confirmed the news during Friday's (26 June) edition of The One Show, revealing that viewers would be saying goodbye for a little while. "This is our last show before we take a four-week break," Alex announced near the beginning of the programme, before looking back on some of her highlights of the past year.

She went on to explain that the BBC's focus would soon shift to a packed summer of sport alongside its coverage of the World Cup, including Wimbledon and the Commonwealth Games, which run from 23 July until 2 August.
As a result, The One Show won't return until 27 July, leaving a noticeable gap in the early evening schedule. While the break may seem lengthy, it's unlikely come as a surprise to long-time viewers.
The programme traditionally takes time off each summer to make way for major sporting events, with the BBC reshuffling schedules to accommodate live coverage. It's also far from the only occasion The One Show has been bumped from its usual slot.
Earlier this year, the programme was temporarily removed from the schedules to make room for coverage of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, another annual fixture in the BBC's calendar. The show has also stepped aside for one-off events over the years, including major sporting occasions and special broadcasts.

During the winter of 2025, The One Show was dropped from the schedules to accommodate the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards. It also took its customary festive break over Christmas and New Year before returning to screens in January 2026.
Since signing off for the summer, the programme's presenters have already been making the most of their time away from the studio. Alex recently revealed to her Instagram followers she had taken her children to see Toy Story 5, while Roman Kemp travelled to New York to watch England's match against Panama.
Although The One Show's summer break is a familiar tradition, the programme sparked concern among viewers earlier this year when Alex unexpectedly disappeared from the presenting line-up for several days.
During her absence, JB Gill teamed up with Roman Kemp to front the show, prompting many viewers to wonder where Alex had gone. She later returned alongside Angelica Bell and reassured viewers that there was nothing to worry about - she'd simply been unwell.
For now, fans will only have to wait patiently until Alex Jones, Roman Kemp and their team return to their familiar 7pm slot, when the programme is due to resume after another busy season of sporting action.
