BBC radio host Trevor Nelson has confirmed that he will be taking a break from his work commitments on the advice of his doctor. In a statement on social media, the presenter said he was "concentrating on getting better".
The DJ, who hosts the weekday afternoon show on BBC Radio 2, has been off the air throughout this week, with Strictly Come Dancing star Richie Anderson filling in during his absence. He also presents on 1Xtra on Sundays.
Taking to Instagram earlier today, Nelson wrote: "I wanted to let my followers, radio listeners and all my Soul Nation party-people know that I’m going to be taking a little break from my work commitments.

"Some of you may already have noticed that I’ve not been on my daily Radio 2 slot this week. After a routine check-up, I was advised to have some follow-up tests. As a result, I will be taking some further time off."
"As I'm sure you can appreciate with health issues, it's important to deal with facts and not speculate. So I'm concentrating on getting better, being back to 100% me and to getting back behind the mic and the decks," he concluded.

The host was supported by several followers in the comment section, with Anderson writing: "Get well soon Trevor. You’re so loved mate ❤️ look after yourself xx". The official account for BBC Radio 2 left a message, where they sent "so much love".
There were also messages of support from other famous faces, including musical artists such as Stormzy, Lemar and Beverley Knight, while BBC presenter Angellica Bell wrote: "Love you! Get back on track, fellow Lucian and friend xx 🇱🇨 ❤️"

Earlier this week, Nelson was honoured with the Special Award by the Television and Radio Industries Club (TRIC), recognising his achievements across both media formats.
