A first-look teaser trailer for season three of Suranne Jones' BBC crime drama Vigil has just landed and the broadcaster promises a "chilling" watch for the new series.

Set to debut later this year, the six-part series onboards Shetland actor Steven Miller as well as Shetland and Endeavour star Killian Coyle, as the third instalment opens up a dark new case for DCI Amy Silva (Jones) and DI Kirsten Longacre (Rose Leslie).

Vigil's teaser trailer doesn't give away much but there is a foreboding intensity that sets up the new series. The synopsis reveals that a new case will take the pair to "a remote Arctic research station, where a member of a covert British special forces mission has been shot dead".

It continues: "Amy and Kirsten will need to catch the killer and defuse a potential international confrontation, driven by a land-grab for energy and resources in the changing polar climate, with both their careers and relationship on the line."

Vigil quickly gained favour with viewers following its debut and has been hailed by fans as "gripping" and a "masterpiece".
