New The Split spin-off The Split Up has been given an exciting release update, as well as first-look footage to boot. The new show is based off of Abi Morgan's hit divorce drama, and focuses on a new cast of characters in a "high-pressure world" in Manchester.

There, we meet the Kishans, a high-profile law family who serve the city's elite, with the series focusing on Aria Kishan (Ritu Arya) as she is poised to take over from father Dhruv (Sanjeev Bhaskar) – though the death of her mother makes her dad wonder whether she can take it on single-handedly.

Her upcoming wedding to partner Neal adds more scrutiny and pressure, especially with their entwined personal and professional lives, while the reemergence of an old flame adds more complications.

"Alongside her siblings Maya and Kav, whose own relationships and loyalties are far from straightforward, Aria must navigate the splits that divide family and those we love – and ask herself: who should you live your life for?" the synopsis adds.

It has now been confirmed that The Split Up will premiere later this year, while a teaser clip has been released.

In it, Aria is taken aback when her past lover (Dimitri Leonidas) arrives at the firm, and she's given an extra shock when her dad tells her that he has been made senior associate.

The show is also set to star Juice's Mawaan Rizwan, Matilda the Musical's Sindhu Vee, Virdee's Aysha Kala, Film Club's Arian Nik, Dinosaur's Danny Ashok, The White Lotus' Shalini Peiris and Queenie's Tom Forbes, while fans can expect guest turns from Lenny Henry, Jane Horrocks and Jameela Jamil.

The six-part series comes from Delicious' Ursula Rani Sarma, who previously said: "I watched The Split with admiration over the years and I was honoured to be asked to create The Split Up: a spin off which introduces a whole new family and city while still holding on to the warmth, humour and heartbreak of Abi Morgan’s original series.

"To be able to place a contemporary British Asian family, helmed by brilliant women, at the heart of a primetime drama series is a dream come true for me as a writer who believes strongly in the importance of representation on our screens."

The Split Up will premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer later this year. The Split is streaming on BBC iPlayer now.
