David Morrissey is one of the big names currently starring in Channel 4's landmark drama Tip Toe (which if you haven't started watching yet, please take this as your sign to do so immediately). But the beloved British actor has an impressive small screen career, with a number of must-see UK dramas under his belt, and a few standouts including the recent ITV crime series Gone, and BBC One's Sherwood.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, however, the actor's highest-rated TV show by critics is actually Daddy Issues – a brilliant comedy-drama series that also stars the wonderful Aimee Lou Wood (Sex Education, Toxic Town).

The sitcom, which first premiered in 2024 with its first season, centres on a pregnant girl called Gemma (Wood) who ends up living in a flat share with her recently-divorced dad Malcolm (Morrissey). Daddy Issues was then commissioned for a second season, and returned to screens in 2025, once again following the classic odd-couple dynamic (but with its unique father/daughter twist).

What to Read Next

"A comedy that's both hilarious and heartfelt is no small achievement," wrote The Age (Australia), while The Times branded it "delightful".

"Daddy Issues is daft, honest, funny and tinged with bleakness," read The Guardian's review, before the publication noted that "it gives stereotypes a twist" and that "everything feels that bit more resonant as a result".

The Independent said: "Thanks to its winning central duo, Daddy Issues feels like a warm hug of a show, but with just enough edge to keep you on your toes."

At the time of season one's premiere, Digital Spy's review read: "Could Daddy Issues be funnier and a bit less clichéd? Yes. But it's a great sign for British comedy that the BBC gave this the go-ahead. Giving writers the chance to take a swing and try things out is how we get to the really good stuff."

We also noted that "even gold-standard comedies like Seinfeld and Parks and Rec had uneven first seasons", ultimately concluding that "the show gets off to a quirky start and doesn't outstay its welcome".
