Nicola Walker has opened up about some of the hardships of parenting ahead of the release of her new outrageous comedy, Alice and Steve. The Unforgotten star appears alongside Jemaine Clement and Yali Topol Margalith in the upcoming Hulu series.

In it, the friendship between Alice (Walker) and Steve (Clement) becomes strained when Steve crosses a major line and begins dating her daughter, Izzy (Margalith).

Speaking to Digital Spy ahead of the show's release on June 8, Walker opened up about her character's feelings and how she would react if she were in the same position.

"I felt it was all about her daughter and feeling utterly betrayed by her best friend, so it's a double whammy," she told us.

The six-part series will see Alice and Steve's two-and-a-half decades of friendship blow up into a "messy, hilarious all-out feud over family, love, and revenge".

Reflecting on the show, Walker said that she believes she would respond in "a very similar way" if faced with the same situation.

"I would hope that at some point, someone would have pulled me into a room and you know, tied me down and said, 'you have to step out because, you know, they're 26, and it's not up to you, irrespective of how you feel.' That's really hard as a parent to keep your mouth shut," she continued.

Walker also opened up about scenes that she found quite vulnerable to film that she felt related to her real life.

"I think a lot of the stuff where Alice is out of control, which I really relate to in my real life," she began. "You don't often see women out of control to that level. And yet, I still really understood why about the way she felt. Yeah, that was the fun; that's actually fun stuff to play.

"She doesn’t care whether you’re going to judge her. She really doesn’t because all that matters is her daughter, so she's got a one-track objective."

Alice and Steve premieres on Hulu on June 8.
