After the Flood returned to our screens for its second outing at the weekend, and fans are already wanting to know whether a third season of the popular police drama is on the cards. Starring Sophie Rundle (Peaky Blinders, Gentleman Jack) as lead detective Joanna Marshall, the new season has dropped as a box set on ITVX while also airing weekly in the Sunday night slot. But if you've made your way through to the finale already, and are wondering what could come next, you've come to the right place.

Will there be a season 3 of After the Flood on ITV?

We currently don't have official word on that, but lead star Rundle has spoken about the possibility. In an interview with Radio Times, she explained that she believes a return for the drama would work because the writers "have built a community of people..."

"That's the key to making it feel alive," she continued. "There are always stories to tell when it feels like a real group of dynamic people... And I do think it's sort of left – you always want to see what happens next."

It's fair to say that After the Flood is popular with audiences, with Rundle herself noting that it's one of the roles that she gets approached about when out in public. There are also plenty of fans with positive things to say about the crime drama on IMDb, with one urging viewers to "stick with it" and arguing that it's "not your typical Brit cop show..."

Another, who said that the show had them "hooked", praised the "excellent acting and production" and pointed to it having "plenty of twists in the tale..."

"Keep watching it gets so exciting," another said.
