The Christmas schedules keep on coming with treats galore, and while it might feel like all the good stuff might be gone by January, Netflix has something special up its sleeve for 2 January.

Enter new Swedish/Finnish detective drama Land of Sin, which is set to have us all glued to our screens in the new year (between The Traitors episodes, naturally). The five part-series takes the genre to the next level, entering us into a world where “shame, love and violence share the same pulse,” according to creator Peter Grönlund.

Set in rural southern Sweden, the series follows mismatched detectives Dani (Krista Kosonen) and Malik (Mohammed Nour Oklah) as they investigate the death of teenager in a farmhouse, which leads to them uncovering a dark generational family feud.

But can they find the culprit in time before the family’s patriarch Elias (Peter Gantman) delivers his own form of justice?

While we patiently wait for Land of Sin to arrive on our screens, here’s everything you need to know about the series, including the plot, cast and how to watch it.

What is Land of Sin about?

The five-part series follows highly intelligent investigator Dani (Krista Kosonen) who's teamed up with recent police graduate Malik (Mohammed Nour Oklah) when teenager Silas is found dead at a farmhouse in the Bjäre peninsula.

What to Read Next

The investigation takes Dani and Malik to the heart of a violent family feud that's been going on for generations in the Scandinavian countryside. The case gets even more fraught when the family’s patriarch Elis (Gantman) gives Dani a deadline to solve the case before taking matters into his own hands.

Land of Sin’s creator, writer and director Peter Grönlund has shared further insight into the series, which he tantalisingly described as “not your average crime show”.

He told Netflix: “The world we enter here is darker, more fragile - a place where shame, love and violence share the same pulse. We pushed beyond formula and style to portray the people at the edge, their fears, loyalties and survival instincts - a raw, cinematic journey into the psychology that drives them, and the secrets they carry like a second skin.”

Who’s in the cast of Land of Sin?

The main cast of Land of Sin includes:

  • Krista Kosonen as Dani
  • Mohammed Nour Oklah as Malik
  • Peter Gantman as Elias

How can I watch Land of Sin?

Good news - it's not long before you can binge Land of Sin. All five episodes will be available to watch on Netflix on Friday 2 January 2026.

What other detective dramas can I watch now?

If you like your detective dramas with a mind-bending twist, then watch Ashes to Ashes, which stars the brilliant Keeley Hawes as Detective Inspector Alex Drake, who inexplicably travels back in time from 2008 to 1981 after being shot. You can binge all three series of Ashes to Ashes on Prime Video.

Another detective drama we’d highly recommend is Murdoch Mysteries. The series follows Detective William Murdoch (Yannick Bisson), who uses cutting edge techniques, like fingerprinting and ultraviolet light, to solve crimes across Canada in the early 1900s. Murdoch Mysteries is perfect if you’ve got a number of free evenings in your calendar as there are 18 series to watch on NOW.
