Shetland spoilers follow.

Shetland has left viewers shocked by a huge twist involving Billy McCabe. While the police sergeant has appeared to be a good guy through most of the show's run, the latest episode suggested that something more sinister may be at work.

The current 10th season of the BBC show focuses on the death of Eadie Tulloch, whose body was found tied up, having been left outside for days.

Last night's third episode shed some further light on her death, as DC Sandy Wilson learned that the £400k in Eadie's account belonged to her late husband and police officer Robert, with the suggestion that it was acquired through corrupt means.

Additionally, two statements were missing that could point to the truth… before we learned that none other than Billy had them.

Billy had worked under Robert when he joined the force as they became close, with Eadie introducing him to his now-wife Morag, while Robert also asked Billy and Morag to keep an eye on his wife before he died.

However, with both Robert and Eadie now dead, it appears some dark truths may be about to be uncovered.

Reacting to the shocking turn of events, one viewer wrote on X: "What!! Surely not a bent Billy?". "Surely Billy isn’t corrupt," another echoed, while a third said: "Billy can't be a bent copper!!"

"Billy surely was stealing the documents in order to protect his partner Morag," a fourth theorised. "Billy is not a [bent] copper. No way!"

Tosh actor Alison O'Donnell previously teased that we would learn more about Billy this season amid the case, noting that their characters "have been through so much together".

"The tenderness we saw between them during season three when Tosh was sexually assaulted has informed everything Lewis [Howden] and I have done since," she told the BBC. "And to have that very special bond hanging in the balance is really hard for both of them. Tosh will find herself torn between loyalties and faced with an almost impossible choice."

Shetland airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
