Martin Clunes and Nicola Walker's Broadchurch-style mystery drama A Mother's Son is now trending on Netflix just days after being added to the streaming site.

The six-part series – in which the performances were dubbed as "powerful" by fans – landed on Netflix over the weekend (Sunday 2 November) and has already climbed to second place on the top 10 list.

The British mystery thriller, likened to Broadchurch, is set in a sleepy Suffolk town that has been shaken awake following the murder of a local schoolgirl, Lorraine Mullary (Juliet York).

A Mother's Son follows mum of two Rosie (Hermione Norris), who is confronted with a terrifying predicament when evidence surfaces suggesting that her son could be involved in Lorraine's death.

The synopsis reads: "Recently remarried, Rosie lives with her two children, Jamie (Alexander Arnold) and Olivia (Ellie Bamber), husband Ben Harley (Clunes), and his children from a previous marriage, Jessica (Antonia Clarke) and Rob (Jake Davis).

What to Read Next

"As the newly formed family settle into daily life living together under one roof, Rosie begins to suspect she may be sharing her home with a killer when she finds a pair of blood-splattered trainers hidden under her son Jamie's bed.

"At first, Rosie tries to dismiss her suspicions, believing them too incomprehensible to be true. Could her teenage boy be involved in murder?"

Walker stars as DC Sue Upton, who is leading the investigation into Lorraine's death.

A Mother's Son originally aired in 2012 on ITV and was described by The Guardian as "tense, absorbing [and] thrilling… with lots of great performances".

Elsewhere, fans of Clunes can also catch the actor in his "gritty" and "tense" ITV drama Out There, which debuted earlier this year.

The series centres on family man and farmer Nathan Williams (Clunes), who runs a farm that has been in his family for generations. Nathan is "caught in a numbing rhythm of work and grief following the death of his wife, Sabine, two years previously", reads the synopsis.

However, the single parent is brought back to reality when his teenage son Johnny (Louis Ashbourne Serkis) gets into a serious amount of trouble with a local gang. "Nathan is uniquely placed and possesses enough pent-up energy to take on the gangs that threaten to engulf his son.

"Consequently, he embarks on a personal journey that will take him ever further out of his comfort zone into a dark alternative world as he fights to protect his family, his homestead and his legacy."
