Return to Paradise lead actor Anna Samson has teased an exciting return for the Death in Paradise spinoff. The season one finale cliffhanger, which saw detective Mackenzie (Samson) secretly witness her newly engaged ex Glenn (Tai Hara) admit to having feelings for her just as she was departing for London.
Samson shared that Return to Paradise is set to up the ante with the "will-they-won't-they" drama for season two.
Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, Samson opened up about the direction of Mackenzie's romance with Glenn for season two, stating: "Both the 'will they' and the 'won't they' get more extreme and they get closer to both of those extremes in this series."
She went on to tease: "The foundational storyline of the whole series is the lead-up to Glenn's wedding. So there's so many 'will they, won't they's.
"'Will the wedding happen? Won't the wedding happen? Will she stay?' Those questions are alive the whole series and there's a kind of rumbling build-up to [Daisy and Glenn's wedding] that Mackenzie is aware of the whole time with more and more anxiety, and maybe the audience is more and more like, we are leading up to a wedding."
Samson added: "There's a love triangle going on. There's always a barrier between Glenn and Mac. Sometimes it's Daisy, but sometimes it's themselves. There's been a long history there, so that's a very alive part of the show."
What to Read Next
During a separate exclusive interview with Digital Spy, Hara elaborated further on the state of Glenn and Mac's relationship in the upcoming season.
"It just gets more entangled and confusing and complicated. Everything just goes deeper," he said.
"At the end of season one, Glenn is completely unaware that Mackenzie's overheard him but he's also farewelled her and has kind of come to terms with the fact that it's not meant to be, as confusing as her time back in [Dolphin Cove] has been.
"So he's completely bewildered and pleasantly surprised when she's back, but it does open up a whole can of worms for how he has to move forward with her and Daisy and navigating this relationship further."
Return to Paradise season 2 debuts Friday 31 October on BBC One at 8pm and BBC iPlayer after airing. Season one is available to watch now on BBC iPlayer.
