Channel 5 has struck gold with The Rumour, a new five-part thriller starring Rachel Shenton (All Creatures Great and Small) and Emily Atack (Rivals).

The series, which premiered last week, has enthralled viewers, with The Rumour currently trending as the number one series on 5's streaming charts. Following the release of the first three episodes, however, fans have lodged the same complaint on social media, with many frustrated by the fact that they can't binge the entire series.

"Wish I could watch it all in one go," wrote one Facebook user. "Why is there only 3 [episodes] on my 5, just whack it all on man, hate waiting for [episodes]," agreed another.

Nonetheless, the final two episodes of The Rumour will air this week, with the fourth instalment premiering at 9pm on Wednesday, 17 September, followed by the finale on Thursday evening.

Based on Lesley Kara's 2018 novel of the same name, The Rumour follows Joanna (Shenton), a single mum who becomes obsessed with solving a mystery in her small town.

What to Read Next

"Joanna moves to the quiet town of Flinstead with her young son, Alfie - a fresh start in a place that promises peace. But beneath its quiet surface lies something more sinister," teases the synopsis.

"When she discovers a chilling rumour about a convicted child killer hiding in plain sight, Joanna seizes the chance to bond with the local mums by sharing it - unknowingly unleashing a wave of paranoia and suspicion.

"As whispers grow louder and tensions rise, Joanna is swept into a dangerous spiral of secrets and blame. With trust eroding and fear spreading like wildfire, she begins to question not only the town's past but her own instincts. Who can she trust? And what will it cost her to find the truth?"

Rounding out the cast, Wolf Hall's Joanne Whalley, Amandaland's Samuel Anderson, Silo's Carryl Thomas, Enola Holmes' Ellie Haddington, Unforgotten's Lucy Speed and A Real Pain's Liza Sadovy also star.

Episodes four and five of The Rumour will air on Wednesday, 17 September at 9pm, and Thursday, 18 September at 9pm, respectively.
