Showtrial star Michael Socha has been cast in a new UK thriller from Channel 4.

Titled Deadpoint and described as "nerve-shredding" by the broadcaster, the five-part series also stars Little Women actor Annes Elwy, The Beautiful Game's Callum Scott-Howells and Adolescence star Christine Tremarco.

Written and created by debut writer Matt Hartley, the series follows a group of Welsh climbers who come across a far-right faction who are plotting a violent act in the local mountains.

Per the synopsis: "A close-knit community of climbers is left reeling after a tragic accident on a mountaineering expedition. As the group is torn apart by grief, Aaron (Scott-Howells) blames himself for the accident and abandons his hometown, to the fury of his sister Seren (Elwy)."

When Aaron comes home after a year abroad, his sister fails to return from a climb and he sets off in search of her, unaware that an extremist group named the Justice Crusade are on a mission in the mountains.

Hot on the heels of the far-right group, which is led by former soldier Fairweather (Socha), is Detective Natasha Evermore (Tremarco), who is convinced something big is on the horizon.

The synopsis continues: "As these disparate stories converge on this remote landscape, a unique thriller emerges, exploring themes of loss, radicalisation and survival."

Lead-directed by Marco Kreuzpaintner, Deadpoint is described as "a wilderness thriller wrapped around an emotional core".

Filming on the new show has already begun in Wales, with much of the action taking place in the "awe-inspiring and unforgiving landscape of Eryri National Park".
