Heartstopper executive producer Patrick Walters has shared a disappointing update on season 4.
The third run of Netflix's teen romance drama dropped on the streaming service back in October last year and received a lot of positive buzz.
Despite that, a fourth season hasn't been officially confirmed yet.
Appearing at the Series Mania festival in Lille, Walters explained that the team behind the Alice Oseman adaptation are "working hard" on getting a fourth season commissioned.
However, he added that "there are a lot of moving parts" and therefore couldn't say whether it is definitely happening or not (via Deadline).
He pointed to how funding for television has become more challenging in the years since Heartstopper first premiered, and that there's a lot of "production complexities of making and commissioning TV in this moment".

He concluded by stating: "The challenge is what you need to do in this moment is to pitch something that feels specific and there is precedent for it and it is moving the conversation on.
"But that is a risk. Often I find you want to gravitate towards risky material and it needs that passion – but that's a challenge."

Although Heartstopper's future is up in the air, fans will be able to see the cast members popping up on screens big and small across the next few months.
Kit Connor's new film Warfare is out next month, and those who have seen it already have praised it as a tough but gripping watch. Yasmin Finney's film Lifehack recently premiered at SXSW, and her recurring Doctor Who character could possibly pop up in the incoming season.
Meanwhile, Bradley Riches was recently confirmed to be playing an important yet mysterious role in Emmerdale.
Heartstopper seasons 1-3 are streaming on Netflix.
