David Tennant has revealed a "heartbreaking" detail about family life, with his parents no longer being around.

The Doctor Who star has five children with wife Georgia – Olive, Wilfred, Doris and Birdie alongside Georgia's son Ty, whom David is adoptive father to – and reflected in a new piece about them never knowing their grandmother, who died in 2007.

"Being without my parents now is miserable," he wrote in the Radio Times. "My mum never got to meet any of my kids, and that’s a bit heartbreaking, because she would have loved them."
