BBC crime series Silent Witness has confirmed a return date.

The hit show, which follows a team of forensic pathology experts as they investigate crimes, was last on our screens earlier this year.

It has now been revealed that season 28 will premiere very soon on Monday, January 6, 2025 at 9pm on BBC One.

Season 28 will open with the "disturbing mystery" of the death of an elderly woman found in a cave, which "has the team asking what drives a person to murder someone so vulnerable".

"We also get an introduction to the two dynamic new team members," the synopsis adds.

Those two new additions are the new Head of The Lyell Centre, Harriet Maven (played by Rivals' Maggie Steed), and crime analyst Kit Brooks (The Witcher: Blood Origin's Francesca Mills), who works with Jack.

Speaking previously about joining the ensemble, new cast member Steed said: "I was delighted to be asked to join Silent Witness. I’ve enjoyed it many times over the years and it’s always been the most intriguing and entertaining series going, so it’s been a thrill to join."

Mills added: "I’m thrilled to be joining such a long running, much loved series as Silent Witness and I really look forward to being a part of the stellar cast. This will be the 28th Series, and it is still going from strength to strength."

Ahead of the new episodes, preparatory work has already begun on the follow-up season of Silent Witness, which is due to begin production in the New Year ahead of its 2026 release.

Silent Witness will return on Monday, January 6, 2025 at 9pm on BBC One.
