Not Going Out favourite Lee Mack is back with a brand new BBC Two sitcom, titled Semi-Detached.

After playing a fictionalised version of himself for 14 years in his other show, the comedian/actor has a new character to amuse audiences with: Stuart, whose whole life seems to be a merry-go-round of farcical events.

And speaking recently, Lee went on to discuss the key difference between his two shows.

"In Not Going Out, I'm usually the one causing my own problem but in this it is completely not the fault of Stuart – everything that happens to him is as a result of other people's bad choices and them telling [him] what to do," he revealed (via RadioTimes.com).

"But the one thing that is his fault is that he should just stand up for himself and he never does, he always tolerates it – and it's pathetic if I'm going to be honest.

"I got quite annoyed by the character by the end of the series! I was like, 'Oh, just punch someone in the face – be a bit more assertive!'"

Unlike Not Going Out's studio comedy format, Semi-Detached is a single-camera production that plays out in real time.

Alongside Lee, the series features Game of Thrones' Blackfish actor Clive Russell as Stuart's hippy father, while Geoffrey McGivern portrays his unstable next door neighbour.

Semi-Detached begins on BBC Two tomorrow (August 6) at 10pm.
