Tonight (September 3) saw the premiere of BBC One's new crime thriller The Capture.

It stars Strike's Holliday Grainger, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald's Callum Turner and superhero veterans Ron Perlman and Famke Janssen (who didn't actually appear in this episode).

The series follows a former soldier named Shaun who is freed after his conviction for a murder in Afghanistan is overturned, but is later arrested by police over some CCTV footage involving him after a night out.

So, viewers were left wondering if the footage was edited, or whether he really did it.

And the huge end-of-episode plot twist – where a vague flashback showed that Shaun did do the assault – and general quality of the series had people calling it 'the new Bodyguard'.

But the reception wasn't completely positive, with a handful complaining the show relied too heavily on cliché and some of the dialogue was hard to hear.

The Capture continues next Tuesday (September 10) at 9pm on BBC One.
