We've all been there. Crying helplessly as our beloved smartphone succumbs to a watery death following an accidental fumble. Oh the misery.
All's not as bad as it seems though. Your phone could be a whole lot more resilient than you first thought, just look at this iPhone 4 that survived a year at the bottom of a lake as an example. Seriously.
Now before we get started, we wouldn't recommend giving this a go yourself. For Pennsylvania resident Michael Guntrum, however, it's a mystical tale of luck, coincidence and wonder, and one that has a happy ending - huzzah!

Guntrum originally lost his iPhone 4 while ice fishing back in 2015. Having dropped the device, it promptly sunk to the bottom of Kyle Lake, a body of water that was drained back in September. Returning to the site, metal detector in hand a couple of weeks ago, amazingly Guntrum found his own phone, still in its case and everything.
Surprised to stumbled upon the device, Guntrum removed it from its weathered OtterBox case, gave it a little clean, then dropped it in some rice for a couple of days before trying to turn it on.
