7. PIKAZO
It might not be able to spell his name correctly, but this novel app is up to the task of turning your photos into works of art worthy of Pablo Picasso.
Pikazo for iOS and Android remixes your images and gives them a mind-bogglingly abstract twist. Whether you prefer the legendary painter's cubist or impressionist work, it's got the effect you're after.
Giving it extra cool points, the software was created by the same image scientist behind some of the iconic scenes seen in the Myst games, The Matrix, 300 and Second Life.

8. SHORTS

Shorts is an app for anyone who thinks that the best thing about Instagram is the mountain of photos you can nose through, but the worst thing about it is everything else.
There's no filters or captions - Shorts simply cuts to the chase by letting you share your entire camera roll with other users.
It's ideal if you can't be bothered with the effort of actual social networking - but it goes without saying that you probably shouldn't download this app if you're partial to a bit of sexting.

9. AMPME
It's not the first app to attempt this, and it probably won't be the last, but AmpMe does a fine job of turning a bunch of mobile devices into a multi-speaker system.
Pooling the audio output of everyone's tablet and smartphone by syncing them together, you won't need to waste money on a sound system the next time you throw a party. Just get everyone on the guestlist to install this app ahead of the main event.
Playlists must be created on the host device, but everyone has access to them once the syncing begins. Let's just hope those annoying kids at the back of the bus who insist on blasting tunes from their phone's internal speakers don't get wind of this one.
