The Neighbours fan petition aiming to save the soap has reached a big milestone a week after launching.

In under two years after the Australian soap first returned to life under Amazon, following its first cancellation at Channel 5, the tech giant has pulled the plug once again.

The Change.org petition aims to convince bosses that the show means an awful lot to people, with fans in the comments echoing that statement. Plenty of folk have written that Neighbours is part of their daily routine, and that they have been watching for decades.

Others also pointed out the show regularly makes the list of the top 10 most-watched shows in the UK for Prime Video (previously Freevee before it became part of Prime Video). At the time of writing, Neighbours is only behind big American shows Reacher and Invincible on the service.

Neighbours' executive producer Jason Herbison recently spoke to TV Tonight and implored fans to keep the fight going.

Multiple Neighbours cast members have responded to the news of the axe, including Selling Sunset and The Traitors US' Chrishell Stause, who made a guest appearance on the soap.

"One thing I've learned from soaps is you’re never really dead. I will await and cheer for your dramatic return from the afterlife,” she said.

"I've come back from the dead TWICE. Wishing Neighbours the same dramatic return!"

Neighbours releases new episodes from Mondays to Thursdays for free on Amazon Freevee and Prime Video in the UK and US. In Australia, the show airs from Mondays to Thursdays at 4pm on Channel 10, with a 6.30pm repeat screening on 10 Peach Comedy.
