Jane is devastated over Clint's admission, despite her loved ones' kindness and support. It's not the news she needed going into her meeting with the Department, who already consider her recent relationship with Clint to be inappropriate.
During the meeting, Jane struggles to explain herself. Luckily Byron's old lawyer skills shine through as he draws on previous case law and department policy to defend Jane and argue that her mistakes do not reach the level necessary for a dismissal. Jane is let off with a warning and Jane and Byron are relieved.
Afterwards, Lana pulls Byron aside. She's impressed and requests to have another chat sometime. Celebrations for the outcome are in full swing, but when Aaron pulls Jane aside, it's clear she's still heartbroken. Clint was supposed to be her fresh start.
