Neighbours executive producer Jason Herbison has hinted that a tribute to the late Janet Andrewartha will be made on-screen.

Andrewartha, who played Lyn Scully on the Australian soap, passed away on Friday (July 26) at the age of 72, with a statement from the soap saying that they were “deeply saddened” by the news.

The actor made her final appearance as Lyn in 2019, and Herbison revealed during an interview with 10 News First – that he attended with star Stefan Dennis – that a tribute to Lyn might be made on-screen.

“We haven’t really had a chance to think too much about that [a tribute] yet,” he began. “I had ambitions to bring Lyn back into the show at some point soon, so I’m very sad that we’re not going to be able to do that.

“I haven’t had a chance to think about it, but the character of Lyn is absolutely legendary – [she’s] Ramsay Street royalty. We’ll address it at some point but this is a huge loss to the world of Neighbours and to all of us here that work on it.”

Dennis, who plays Lyn’s ex-husband Paul Robinson, also paid tribute to Andrewartha in the interview saying: “I got to work with one of the most underrated actors in Australia – she was absolutely astonishing to work with.

“I know that sounds big but she had this ability to give you everything through her eyes without doing too much else. She would bring a scene to life – it would challenge you and really make you involved. It was a privilege to be able to work with somebody like that.”

Several other Neighbours stars paid tribute to the actor upon hearing the news, with Jackie Woodburne writing: “Janet was one of the finest actors of her generation, but more than that, she was an extraordinary woman. Passionate, political, curious, delightfully eccentric, generous and fun. To me she was a steadfast friend for over 45 years. I will miss her every day.”
