Neighbours is coming back in just a few weeks, and fans are dying to know what will be the same and what has changed in the move to Amazon Freevee. It looks like we're definitely getting a new version of the iconic theme tune — but Jason Donovan won't be singing it.
The Australian actor and singer returned to the soap last year for the first time in ages for what was the final episode, playing Scott Robinson alongside Kylie Minogue's Charlene. The producers of the revival did indeed ask him to provide his vocals for the new theme tune, but that's not going to happen.
"They asked me about recording the Neighbours theme for the new version, and I declined, because I felt the moment had happened," Jason said on Scott Mills' BBC Radio 2 show. "I don't know what [the new version] is."

He then admitted that he and Kylie weren't sure about coming back for the finale, but Guy Pearce signing on to do it convinced them it was something they needed to join in on.
Jason also talked about Kylie's return to the top 10 of the singles chart this summer, with the inescapable 'Padam Padam', stating that he didn't doubt she would have another mainstream hit.

He also reminisced about Kylie's Hyde Park show in 2018, sharing how their on-stage duet of 'Especially for You' wasn't planned, as he texted her the night before and they arranged it. Jason then admitted he felt a bit bad that he took all the headlines from Rick Astley joining her on stage.
Neighbours returns on September 18, with new episodes streaming on Mondays to Thursdays for free on Amazon Freevee in the UK and US. Network 10 will retain first-run rights in Australia for the new series.
