Hollyoaks spoilers follow.
Rex Gallagher faced turmoil on Hollyoaks as he was the recipient of some brutal online trolling, though a disturbing twist revealed that everything was not quite what it initially seemed to be.
Prior to his marriage to Ste Hay, Rex had experimented with his identity by dressing in women's clothing. Though Ste was initially surprised, and continued to have some reservations, he endeavoured to support his husband in his journey.

During Monday's episode of the Channel 4 soap, Rex was accidentally knocked over after getting in the middle of a scuffle. After Ste tended to his wounds, Rex lied and said he was attacked because of his choice of clothing.
Today's instalment saw Ste and Leela express concern for Rex, with the pair suggesting that they inform the police. Rex, however, was adamant that it was not a good idea to have anybody else involved.

He managed to navigate this situation, but was soon having to put out fires as Ro Hutchinson nearly exposed him. Leela and Ste learned that Rex didn't immediately return home following the incident, but Ro urged them to call the police.
As Rex and Ste shared a tender moment back at home, Rex soon got his laptop and showed his husband some comments from social media. They were all aimed at Rex, and criticising his crossdressing.
Ste was appalled by the messages, and vowed to support his husband by getting the comments taken down. Unbeknownst to him, Rex was actually composing and sending the messages himself.
With Rex garnering support and acceptance from his loved ones, will he find the validation too good to resist? Or will he begin to feel guilty after manipulating his husband and his closest friends?

Elsewhere in the episode, there was trouble for Ant Hutchinson as he moved into the McQueen household. With only one toilet catering for nine people, he found himself in a delicate situation, but was rebuffed by his father, Tony, as he needed the loo.
There was also trouble for Theresa, who had a major argument with Cleo regarding her relationship with Dodger Savage. She suspected that her cousin still had feelings for him, and was proved correct as Cleo and Dodger shared a kiss later on.
Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.
