Hollyoaks star Isabelle Smith has teased some "wild" changes in the future for Frankie Osborne. The character has been through quite a traumatic few years, notably as the soap explored a sibling sexual abuse storyline with her brother JJ as well as an exploitation plot.

JJ was sentenced to prison earlier this year for his abuse of Frankie, though was recently killed behind bars. Frankie's current boyfriend Sully later admitted to ordering the attack on her brother, though played down the role in his death.

Upcoming scenes this Christmas will see Frankie team up with Dodger to take Sully down, a winter trailer recently teasing her wearing a wire as she's determined to get justice for JJ despite what he put her through.

Isabelle has now teased the potential of something brighter in Frankie's future in a new interview for Hollyoaks Unwrapped.

"I did have a phone call yesterday actually with Si Wall [producer] and I did say something that I think would be interesting for Frankie, and it's actually something that he's also been talking about upstairs," she said. "Which is wild!"

When host and co-star Kieron Richardson asked whether it would be something "traumatic for the audience" or "lighter" fare, she confirmed that it would be the latter.

"It's maybe a different career path for her," Isabelle added. "And I think that if you watch the upcoming scenes, that might be give you a little bit of a [clue]."

Meanwhile, earlier this year the star called out the "elitist industry" around acting, calling on the government to support "working-class [actors] just a little bit more". Isabelle's comments came amid a Hollyoaks set visit by Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy.

"People have paid to go to private school, or to RADA (Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts) whatever," she said. "You’re constantly having to prove yourself into every room that you’re going into because you’ve maybe not had the same education as other people that you are sat next to.

"If we just made it a little bit more accessible, I think people would be astounded at the difference that it actually makes."

Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
