Hollyoaks star Rishi Nair has teased that Sami Maalik will fall head over heels for a new arrival in the village.

Sami has been struggling to move past being left at the altar by Sinead O'Connor (Stephanie Davis), though he is soon set to be lucky in love once again when he meets Edward Hutchinson's daughter Verity (Eva O'Hara).

After a conversation with Sinead's mum Diane about her own budding romance with Edward, Sami will hit it off with Verity at the village's charity ball next week.

"When [Sami] first sees her, he thinks that she is very attractive," Rishi Nair has revealed. "Him and his brother [Imran] are both fighting over her. It's quite a fun scene actually, because we all know Sami as being quite smooth and good with the ladies, but with Verity, that kind of all goes out the window."

The actor went on: "[Sami] kind of stumbles, first by taking the mick out of Imran for not getting his words out, but then it happens to Sami as well. I think he finds her quite endearing as the episode goes on, he finds out that she is Edward's daughter and thinks she is quite sweet.

"She is fun and I think that's what Sami needs after Sinead, it's something to lighten him up a bit."

Nair admitted that one major barrier for the couple really making a go of it is Sami's doubts about being "ready for a new relationship".

"I think he's still getting over Sinead," he said. "I think he's still a little bit lost. He's very good at distracting himself and being a lawyer helps him.

"He goes about and does his work and he's very good at his job, and that keeps his mind away from everything. I think when he comes back, he does still think about her and feel quite lonely.”

Nair has nothing but praise for new co-star Eva O'Hara, saying: "She's a good laugh and we get on well. It's been brilliant, we've got good chemistry and she is great fun to work with."
