Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale's Charity Dingle faces a huge setback next week as evil Dr Caitlin Todd continues to extort money from her. Last month, Dr Todd helped save Charity's life after complications during the birth of baby Leyla.

But after overhearing a tense exchange between Ross Barton and Chas Dingle, Todd worked out that baby Leyla wasn't actually conceived through Charity's surrogacy arrangement with Jacob and his wife Sarah.

After confirming her suspicions, Todd confronted Charity and later demanded £10,000 to keep her secret. But when Charity claimed that she didn't have any savings, it seemed as if Todd was prepared to accept £5,000 and leave the village.

However, a chat between Todd and Manpreet revealed to the doctor that Charity actually owns half of the Woolpack pub, meaning she's much better off than she'd claimed to Todd.

Todd then upped her demand to £100,000, telling Charity she could sell her share of the pub to get the money.

In scenes set to air on Monday (18 May), Charity phones the bank to ask for a loan extension and is knocked back.

Sarah then comes in to look for Leyla's toy bunny and sees Charity angrily throwing her phone, but Charity tells her she's just having problems with the brewery.

When Sarah shares that Jacob has been getting stressed ever since Todd got into his head, Charity says that the doctor will hopefully be gone soon.

But Sarah isn't so sure, saying Todd is probably staying in the village as she's now with Vanessa. When Sarah leaves, Charity receives a text from Todd saying: 'The clock is ticking.'

Further spoilers for next week indicate that Charity will begin looking for a buyer for her share of The Woolpack.

Speaking about the storyline, Caroline Harker, who plays Dr Todd, said: "I don’t think Todd knew she was going to go as dark as she’s gone. I think she’s been affected by her father dying and all that happened with Jacob.

"It’s pushed her into different things that she didn’t know she was capable of, but she’s enjoying it!"

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
