Emmerdale has revealed Arthur Thomas's surprising role in the Ray Walters death mystery. Next week's episodes will centre on flashbacks surrounding the character's demise earlier this month, with each instalment focused on a different character's perspective.
Among them is Laurel Thomas, who had been in a relationship with Ray but learnt about his horrific crimes the day he died. Previous spoilers had hinted that her son Arthur would play a role in events, and now further teasers for Monday's (19 January) special have been unveiled.
In the scenes, Laurel is left shocked by the truth around Ray and rushes home as she refuses to listen to him. He forces his way back into Mulberry Cottage as he begs Laurel to believe his trauma.
She refuses to accept his narrative of victimhood, as Ray begs for his freedom. As such, Laurel's decision to let him walk off proves deadly.
Arthur is determined to make Ray pay for Laurel's pain – but how far will he go in his mission of revenge?

In another flashback from later on in the week, an incandescent Arthur takes Ray's red holdall from outside the village hall. He returns with the bag, leaving Laurel shocked as she finds drugs in there.
This leads to a tense confrontation between mother and son – has Arthur gone off the rails?
"Arthur was always one of the village's most mild-mannered teens - but that's changed recently, with Laurel pulling him up on his moody behaviour around the house," our Emmerdale source said.

"He's still very protective of his mum, especially with his sister Gabby away at the moment, but did he get his chance to take revenge on Ray? And how will Laurel feel about Arthur now being in possession of Ray's dodgy stash?"
Emmerdale previously teased that the special episodes will be "packed with dramatic twists as the truth about who killed Ray is exposed".
