Corriedale spoilers follow.

Corriedale officially hit our screens tonight after months of anticipation, revealing the winner of the crossover fan vote just moments after voting closed. Last year, Coronation Street and Emmerdale confirmed that the history-making one-hour special would include an interactive element in the form of an online poll.

Fans were given the opportunity to vote for their "dream duo" from a shortlist of four pairs consisting of Roy Cropper and Nicola King, Kirk Sutherland and Sam Dingle, Carla Connor and Charity Dingle, Ross Barton and Tracy Barlow.

With Corriedale boss Iain MacLeod confirming that voting, which started in January, would be closing 15 minutes before transmission, the results were finally revealed in tonight's episode, with Charity and Carla revealed as the winning pair.

In the scene, which took place at the hospital following the chaos of a multi-vehicle crash involving characters from both soaps, Charity and Carla were both seen waiting for the lift.

Sharing a conversation, the two iconic characters discussed the day's events. After Charity asked Carla how she was doing, Carla said she had "been better".

In the lift, Charity asked Carla what had happened to her, with Carla replying: "I thought I watched the woman I love die."

"Same, although not a woman for me this time," Charity quipped. Carla explained that she had been having "one particularly big issue", with Charity noting that she saw Becky being carted off by the police in a "really bad coat".

Charity added: "Well there you go, problem solved. And hey, if it isn't, I'm pretty sure I'm going to be single after this. Search The Woolpack, I'm always there."

Carla didn't take her up on the offer, saying she loved Lisa, with Charity agreeing that she loved Mack, saying: "He's the one for me."

As Charity exited the lift, she asked Carla: "And you and me, well, we definitely don't want to screw that up do we?"

With all four scenes being written and filmed before the winning duo was revealed, fans might be wondering if they will get to see any of the other iconic ITV soap characters meet.

Confirming that the scenes would not go to waste, MacLeod said they will probably release the other three clips at some point for fans to enjoy.

"We'll find some avenue for you to see all of them at some point, I'm sure," he said. "But in terms of what goes in the episode, the final version of Corriedale to be enshrined for posterity, that will be up to the audience."

Corriedale aired tonight on ITV1 at 8pm and will be available to stream on ITVX and YouTube.
