Emmerdale spoilers follow from Friday's episode (25 July).
Emmerdale has aired another big change for Sarah Sugden and Jacob Gallagher, following their recent engagement.
In yesterday's episode, Jacob organised a picnic for Sarah, during which he confessed his true feelings. Sarah feared getting her heart broken again, but she eventually revealed that she loved him too.
Eager to prove his commitment, Jacob then surprised Sarah with an impromptu proposal – which she happily accepted.
In tonight's episode, the couple decided to share their engagement with Jacob's granddad Eric. Jacob was worried that Eric would "freak out" over the news, as he previously shared his disapproval of their surrogacy plans.

Later, Sarah returned to the shop to appeal to Eric, telling him that Jacob was desperate for his approval. Eric explained that he was worried about his grandson getting hurt, as Sarah has a limited life expectancy.
However, Sarah reminded him of his relationship with Val Pollard, which lasted for eight years until Val's tragic death. She reasoned that she could have 20 years to live and that Jacob also deserves a shot at love.
Having mulled over Sarah's words, Eric approached his grandson at the Woolpack and apologised for his reaction to the engagement. He embraced and congratulated the couple, leaving Jacob feeling elated.
