Emmerdale's Amy Walsh and her husband, former EastEnders star Toby-Alexander Smith, have announced a new career move away from soaps.

The couple, who tied the knot in 2023, will be supporting Amy's sister Sally by launching her drama school up north.

The Walsh Academy was established in London in 2021 by Sally and, according to Amy and Toby, it has gone "from strength to strength".

"The academy has flourished and the students are THRIVING! That is why we are a thrilled to be bringing The Walsh Academy… to the NORTH!" they confirmed in a joint post on Instagram.

"The Walsh Academy North will open on 2nd June 2025 and provide speech and drama classes, with some screen acting thrown in there down the line, for children aged from 7 to 16," Toby said in the video.

"And the best part about it is we'll be your Acting coaches," chimed Amy, who plays Tracy Metcalfe on Emmerdale.

"We're not about making each child into a star at all. We want to give each child confidence, a safe space to express themselves, meet new friends and have fun."

Toby concluded: "It's not about turning every child into an actor. We're going to nurture that talent if it's there and they want to dig a little deeper with it.

"But ultimately we want to give them the tools so they can stand tall, be heard and believe in their own voice."

At the end of the video, the pair confirmed that The Welsh Academy North will kick off on 2 June at St Barnabas Church in Alwoodley, Leeds.

Amy and Toby first started dating back in 2020, before getting engaged in the summer of 2022 and marrying in 2023.

They are also parents to a young daughter named Bonnie, who they welcomed in December 2021.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
