Emmerdale spoilers follow from Thursday's episode (November 28), which is available to watch now on streaming service ITVX but hasn't yet aired on ITV1.

Emmerdale has aired a long-awaited triumph for Belle King as she thwarted her evil husband Tom's plans to escape justice.

The dramatic scenes aired in Thursday's episode as Tom tried to flee from the country to avoid being jailed over his abuse of Belle.

Tom has been formally charged with coercive controlling behaviour and assault after damning evidence on his tablet computer proved Belle's allegations against him.

In the latest visit to the Dales, Tom was released on bail ahead of his court appearance but quickly realised that he didn't have many allies left in the village.

Tom's uncle Jimmy bitterly regretted siding with him over Belle for so long, realising that he'd been played for a fool.

After an angry showdown at the King house, which saw Tom turn nasty and personal with his relative, Jimmy ordered the villain to move out.

Tom's new girlfriend Amelia Spencer outwardly put on a show of support, but it was clear that she was finally doubting him too.

In the end, Tom confided in Amelia about his plans to take a flight back to Saudi Arabia to avoid having to face trial over his crimes.

As Tom headed off from the village in Kerry Wyatt's car, he spotted Belle walking nearby on a country road and stopped the vehicle for a final frightening showdown.

Tom menacingly threatened Belle, warning that she'd always have to look over her shoulder as he'd be back one day.

The schemer later abandoned Kerry's car in the middle of nowhere, trying to cover his tracks and keep everyone guessing about his true whereabouts as he wasn't sure whether he could trust Amelia.

Later at The Woolpack, Belle interrupted her family as they all despaired over Tom doing a runner.

Fortunately, Belle revealed that she'd already taken matters into her own hands and Tom would be dealt with: "Whilst he was up in my face, I put my phone on silent and I stuck it in his bag.

"I can track my phone. I've given the details to the police. I've told them he was threatening me, he's broken his bail conditions and they're on their way to catch him right now."

In the closing moments of the episode, Tom was seen preparing to board a ferry to Rotterdam when DS Foy and his team swooped in to arrest him for breaching his bail conditions.

Tom was furious to realise that his plans had backfired this time. With a big trial week now looming, could this be the beginning of the end?

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
