"The affair is going to have huge repercussions. It's going to affect a lot of our villagers."

She added: "It's also going to ultimately lead to a new arrival joining the show, which I can't tell you about just yet because it won't be until next year, but we're very excited about it here.

"It's going to be explosive, and that new arrival is going to cause uproar in the village."

Emmerdale recently aired an affair storyline for Liam Cavanagh and Wendy Posner, who bonded over their mutual interest in steamy murder mystery stories.

The pair's romantic connection nearly led to the breakdown of Wendy's relationship with Bob Hope, although Wendy and Bob have since decided to stay together.

Last year, Chas Dingle also cheated on her husband Paddy with Al Chapman.

This sparked a disastrous chain of events in the village, ultimately leading to Al's death at the hands of Cain Dingle's young son Kyle.
