Emmerdale's Marlon Dingle is going to take a big step in his stroke recovery in upcoming episodes.

In scenes set to air soon, Marlon is apprehensive as he collects his specially adapted car. Mary and Rhona Goskirk give him a grilling and he eventually agrees to get back behind the wheel.

He's anxious about driving for the first time since his stroke, but will it go as badly as he's fearing, or will it be fine?

Marlon suffered a stroke back in March of 2022 and the show has been taking its time with his recovery storyline, something that actor Mark Charnock praised the format of a soap for allowing.

"[Soap is] the only form of drama where you can do it like that, really. Where you can do day by day changes – literally. So we're very lucky in that respect," he said.

"These small, incremental changes that take place – the downs and the ups. I do feel that soap is the only form of drama where you can tell a story like this in such detail."

He continued: "Who knows where he'll be? The pace of recovery can vary massively. I don't know where he's going to be in a few months' time, but that's what's great about it.

"Every time you get a script, you see little differences that they're starting to put in. Obviously I've had conversations about where he might be in a few months' time, but they want to take their time with it. It's important that they don't rush it."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
