Emmerdale spoilers follow.
Tonight's episode (December 22) of Emmerdale saw Paddy Dingle in confrontation with his best friend.
At the village carol concert, Paddy is "manning the mulled wine stall", resulting in him helping himself to as many cups as possible
Although he's there with Eve, he quickly forgets about his fatherly duties and starts to get standoffish.

As the villagers are outside singing carols, Chas and Paddy stand inside arguing. Even from outside, the carol singers can overhear the rising voices.

Paddy can't help but bring up Chas's recent affair with Al (who was killed by Kyle in October), telling her that she broke his heart.
After leaving the festive fair, Paddy heads to the pub where he ends up covering behind the bar... helping himself to further drinks.
Eve has to be passed onto Marlon and Rhona to look after as Paddy is too drunk, and they end up ringing Chas as Eve is asking for her mum.
Drunken Paddy takes offence to Chas' presence in Marlon's home, forcing his friend to give him some home truths.

Marlon points out that he hadn't supported him at all today, having given a very touching speech to the community at the end of the carol concert.
Considering Marlon is still recovering from his stroke, this was a significant moment for Paddy to miss, with Marlon describing the talk as "the biggest challenge" and adding: "You've not asked me once, not once, how it's gone."
Marlon points out Paddy's instinct to deflect or become angry when faced with criticism, rather than face it head on.
The end of the episode sees Paddy sitting on a bench alone outside the pub, but looking in. Whether he'll enter the pub and continue his self-destructive cycle, or opt to reflect on his behaviour and try to overcome his family issues, is a resolution not yet made clear.
