Marlon's stroke storyline has been acclaimed by viewers and has seen actor, Mark Charnock, nominated for numerous British Soap Awards.

But he recently revealed that the character of Marlon was nearly very different and that he was originally set to be a musclebound hunk – something he did not think he was the right fit for.

"They were going to have him as an absolute hunk, a beautiful, carved thing. At some point, someone said wouldn't it be funny if he was just an absolute dweeb who thought he was that? That was why I got the audition."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
