Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale's Cain Dingle becomes an unlikely source of support for grief-stricken Liam Cavanagh next week.

Liam (Jonny McPherson) was left devastated this week as his teenage daughter Leanna was found dead in mysterious circumstances.

Viewers saw villainous Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu) push Leanna from a bridge in a desperate bid to protect her sinister secrets. In upcoming episodes, the police miss the signs of foul play and decide that Leanna's death wasn't suspicious.

As we've already revealed, Liam goes on a downward spiral by destroying a memorial set up in Leanna's honour. He also bitterly blames Liv Flaherty (Isobel Steele) and Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) for what happened to Leanna.

In the aftermath, local vicar Charles Anderson (Kevin Mathurin) tries his best to support Liam, who rejects his efforts.

Cain (Jeff Hordley) witnesses this and decides to reach out to Liam in his own unique way.

When Cain approaches Liam at the cricket pavilion, the struggling doctor is grateful beyond words for Cain's support. The two men end up sitting in silence, drinking together.

Later in the week, Liam asks Jacob to help sort through Leanna's things, hoping to make amends with him.

Liam becomes distressed when Jacob starts asking about the ring that he gave to Leanna, which has gone missing.

As Liam's grief starts to overwhelm him again, he surveys the river bank where Leanna was found and then drives away from the village.

Leyla is full of worry for Liam, fearful that he could come to harm.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
