Emmerdale star Claire King has teased tensions this Christmas between Kim Tate and daughter-in-law Andrea.

Claire has been off-screen for a number of months to shield at home amid the COVID-19 pandemic, though will be back in time for the festive period.

Speaking about what's to come, the actress admitted that scenes won't be "quite as traumatic" as last year with the 'Who Killed Graham?' storyline – though there will be some clashes with Andrea over granddaughter Millie.

"She wants to spend time with her granddaughter Millie, especially at Christmas, but she's got a battle on her hands with Millie's mum Andrea," she told The Mirror.

"Kim's son Jamie has split up from Andrea. Kim still wants to see her granddaughter who she loves very much, so it's not an easy time."

Claire also teased potential romance for Kim, adding: "There might be a little love interest coming along. I can't say who with, but there aren't many men left in the village that she hasn't dated, so you can probably narrow it down."

It comes after the actress previously revealed an affair storyline for her character upon her return to the village, which will leave viewers "blindsided".

"This came along six months ago when we were going to start the storyline but obviously we got a tad interrupted," she said. "I think the audience are going to be a bit blindsided because they won't see it coming – it's a bit off-piste."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
