Emmerdale spoilers follow.
Emmerdale's Charity Dingle received a shock tonight after a recently returned Kirin Kotecha tried to blackmail her into handing over a huge sum of money.
Earlier in the day a delighted Charity (Emma Atkins) told Tracy Metcalfe (Amy Walsh) that she had passed all of the background checks to adopt her fiancée Vanessa Woodfield's (Michelle Hardwick) young son Johnny, in a much-needed piece of good news.
But things took a turn for the worse when Kirin (Rish Shah) returned to the village and approached his former stepmum Priya Kotecha (Fiona Wade).

While Priya was not at all pleased to see him again, reminding Kirin that he is still on the run after killing Tess Harris in a car accident four years ago, Kirin countered by saying that he wanted to see his and Vanessa's son Johnny – only for Priya to tell him in no uncertain terms that Vanessa doesn't want to see him.

Kirin was also very surprised to hear that Vanessa is now engaged to Charity and that Charity is trying to adopt Johnny, prompting a furious reaction from Kirin as he announced that he was going to make things difficult for Charity and Vanessa, much to Priya's horror.
Admitting that he is running low on cash, Kirin asked Priya for money and she quickly turned down his request. But, before he ran off again, Kirin hinted that he was going to pay Charity an unwanted visit.
Later, Priya met up with Charity and tried to warn her but Kirin was soon back to interrupt their conversation, gleefully telling Charity that, as Johnny's biological dad, he has the power to make it impossible for her to adopt Johnny if she doesn't cooperate with him.

He then demanded £15,000 from Charity, to which she responded that she would give him a few hundred pounds to disappear again but nothing more.
But Kirin was having none of it, and announced that he would give her one day to pay up before he springs into action in trying to slow down or even block Charity's adoption of Johnny altogether.
Desperate Charity was left with a huge dilemma – does she try to pay off Kirin and try to get him out of their lives again, or stand her ground and risk disrupting the adoption process?
Emmerdale is now back to its usual schedule, airing weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
