DI Malone and Harriet Finch's mysterious history was alluded to during tonight's (May 15) episode of Emmerdale.
The pair are set to get intimate in some shocking scenes airing next week, so tonight's encounter was just a hint of what's to come, with poor Will Taylor left at home completely out of the loop regarding his wife's backstory.
Tonight, Malone swung by the church during Harriet's choir practise, leading to a tense revelation about their past.

As the confrontation played out once everyone had left the building, viewers learned that Harriet and Malone were an item back in the day, prior to the former's relocation as a reverend.

Further into this revealing conversation, the bent copper discussed his "big plan" to win her back, but the screen cut to black before anything else unfolded.
