Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale's Harriet Finch is drawn into the DI Malone story tonight (May 6), marking the beginning of a new chapter in the ongoing saga.

Harriet has spent the past few weeks in the dark over Malone terrorising her partner Will Taylor, but it looks like that's about to change.

In Wednesday's visit to the village, Harriet is worried for Will as he hasn't been home all night.

Just as Harriet is sharing her fears with Will's daughter Dawn, the troubled ex-convict comes bursting through the door.

Will is full of cuts and bruises after being beaten up by thugs who were working for Malone.

The injuries are so bad that he has to be taken into hospital, but Harriet's sympathy is limited as she wants to know exactly what's going on.

Harriet's search for answers is sure to draw her closer to Malone's web – but how would she feel if she knew about her former colleague's antics? Plus, would she support Will or turn against him?

Katherine Dow Blyton, who plays Harriet, recently promised some exciting episodes to come as her character goes head-to-head with Malone.

Viewers will also discover that the two characters share a surprising history, which dates back to Harriet's time in the police.

Katherine told Inside Soap: "They do have a past, but that's all I can tell you at the moment. All will be revealed a few weeks down the line – and it's going to be worth watching.

"Obviously we had to stop filming quite abruptly once lockdown began, and it was just as things were getting exciting. That's been a bit frustrating, but there's so much more to come."

Emmerdale airs tonight at 7pm on ITV.
