Former Emmerdale star Maxwell Caulfield believes his character Mark Wylde was killed off "too soon".
Mark arrived in January 2009 but was murdered by his first wife Natasha (Amanda Donohoe) one year later after it came out that he was a bigamist and had a secret family.
Speaking to Inside Soap, Caulfield said that he wished the door had been left open for a return.
"Emmerdale killed me off too soon!" he said. "I'm sure each actor you speak to says, 'Oh yes, I was in it during a golden era of the show!', but I do think the Wylde family was broken up too soon. They had fantastic potential.
"They made the mistake of flogging that bigamy storyline into the ground, so the audience couldn't wait to see the end of it. Consequently, the bigamist had to go, too!
"I'd have liked a less ignominious death, and I'd have liked the option to go back. I gather they exhumed the body to make sure it was me in there!"

Caulfield added that he had a lot of fun with his co-stars during his short stint on the show.
"The Dingles were a fun bunch to hang out with, and working with Jeff Hordley [who plays Cain] was always a treat," he said.
"There are a lot of nice people on that show."
Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
