EastEnders spoilers follow from Monday's first and second episode (29 June), which is available to watch now on BBC iPlayer.

EastEnders saw the return of an Albert Square stalwart tonight as Jean Slater came back to Walford. The character, who hasn't been on screen since early May, ended up having a heart-to-heart with Priya Nandra-Hart as she worried over a less welcome return.

Tonight (Monday, 29 June), a shaken Priya met Avani in the cafe and told her that Joel was being released and would be serving the rest of his sentence in the community.

Priya then tried to assure her daughter that Joel would be living at his mum's house and wouldn't get near her. But Avani didn't seem convinced that she'd be safe.

Later, when Priya met with her again, Avani told her she wanted to see her dad, Ravi, after finding out about Joel, believing he was the only person who could keep her safe.

When Priya advised against it, Avani accused her of acting strangely. But their conversation was soon interrupted by Jean who told Priya they needed to make a balloon arch for Cindy's engagement party.

What to Read Next

While the two made the balloon arch together, Jean opened up about Daniel, her partner who died from liver cancer a few years ago, as well as her split from Harvey and Stacey leaving.

After Priya told Jean to stop talking about such depressing topics, Jean said she'd always admired Priya and Ravi's relationship, saying it was obvious how much they loved each other.

When Priya pushed back, Jean asked her about Ravi being in a mental health unit and said she knew from her own experiences how much Ravi must be missing her.

But when Priya broke down crying, the pair headed to the kitchen for a proper heart-to-heart where she opened up about Ravi's rejection of her and their children.

Priya went on to admit that her former partner was no longer in the unit and that she hasn't told her children yet that he doesn't want to be with them anymore.

She also confessed to sleeping with someone else but didn't reveal it was Max, who then entered the kitchen looking for Alfie.

Later, at the party, Priya confronted Cindy, telling her the party was tacky in front of a very confused Max.

Priya then told Max in private that she could blow up his life any time she wants and said that he now must keep her happy if he wants to marry Cindy.

How far will Max go to ensure Priya keeps their secret?
