EastEnders aired a devastating turn of events for the Beale family in the show's latest episode.

This week's scenes have seen Rocky decide to commit arson at Kathy's café, unable to find any other way of paying his mounting debts.

Reports back in August suggested that Kathy iconic café could be destroyed in an explosive twist, but the storyline was only officially confirmed last week.

Rocky ultimately went against his friend Harvey's strong advice and tampered with the electrics.

When a panicked Bobby saw the fire inside the café, he rushed in and attempted to extinguish it. As he was doing so, it exploded and trapped an unconscious Bobby inside.

They managed to locate him but Rocky and Peter got trapped, and Rocky fell unconscious.

Devastated, Kathy explained that they were both in intensive care and may not make it.

"They were unconscious when they were carried out and now they are both in intensive care", Kathy explained. "Peter is on a ventilator. We don't know if they will make it."

Show boss Chris Clenshaw recently name-checked Kathy and Rocky as two characters to keep an eye in the lead-up to Christmas.

"I think we should keep a close eye on Kathy and Rocky and their relationship", he said to Digital Spy. "Kathy's currently unaware of the financial struggles that Rocky has found himself in.

"We do know that there's going to be a huge fire in the cafe and that event will have huge repercussions for the Beales as lives are left hanging in the balance. I think really you need to keep an eye out on each of those Six women."

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
