EastEnders has aired the return of Phil Mitchell for Christmas.

The Walford crime boss' sudden reappearance in Walford comes at the worst possible time for love rival Alfie Moon, since Alfie continues to woo Phil's soon-to-be-wife Kat Slater.

Tuesday's (December 20) shocking episode saw Keanu Taylor reveal to DCI Keeble that Phil was on his way back to Albert Square and ripe to fall into any trap they might set for him.

"Phil and all his little cronies are heading back completely unaware and right into your lap. Trust me," he told the DCI.

Meanwhile, Tommy overheard Kat telling Alfie their kiss was a mistake and later confided in his mum that she seems much happier around Alfie than Phil.

Kat initially asked Alfie to leave to avoid any more heartache for Tommy, yet she was bowled over to see how much effort he'd put in making a Winter Wonderland for the kids.

After a day of Christmas cheer for the kids, Kat and Alfie were both surprised to see Phil making his grand reappearance on the Square as they walked arm-in-arm to the Vic.

"Ain't this a nice warm welcome," Phil grumbled as he saw Kat and Alfie together.

The trio had company as Keanu watched from the shadows while Ricky and Sam couldn't help but oversee the drama from down the road.

"Well, what have I missed?" Phil demanded to know in the night's cliffhanger.

Viewers can expect some rough moments ahead for Phil and Alfie, as Shane Richie has warned the situation with them goes "from bad to worse" now that Phil has returned to the Square.

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
