In tonight's episode (September 12), the soap aired a topical reference to Queen Elizabeth II's death.

The instalment included a newly-inserted scene referencing the sad news of The Queen's passing. This special scene starred Kathy Beale, royal superfan Linda Carter and Denise Fox reflecting on how they'd been impacted by the loss.

Kathy likened The Queen's death to "losing our nan", with Linda agreeing: "We have! The country, well, we've all lost our nan."
